At Kokako quality is paramount and as such we work with various coffee co‐operatives and traders to source green coffee which, once we have roasted it, tastes really good. We back this up with ‘third party verification’ from both Fairtrade and Biogro NZ for the organic status of all of our coffee and drinking chocolate.
Relationships throughout the whole supply chain are paramount to us –from the grower, to the co‐op, traders, certifiers, then to our roaster and then most importantly to the customer.
For our original house blend Aotea we batch roast three distinct origins of green beans from Fairtrade cooperatives in Papua New Guinea, Mexico and Sumatra. The Papua New Guinea Green Beans come from HOAC, a cooperative of growers located in the remote regions of the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. It is estimated that between 50,000 to 60,000 people receive benefits from the Cooperative.
Kokako is a small, dedicated Fairtrade Organic Coffee roastery based in Grey Lynn. It is run by Mike Murphy with the support of a great team including Head Coffee Roaster Chris Unkovich.
